BCM43xx Ndiswrapper in Hardy

First before you start installing ndiswrapper you need to blacklist b43 modules by editing /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
$ sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
password:

then add:

blacklist b43 (you can put it under blacklist bcm43xx

save and quit gedit.

The second step is to install ndiswrapper
From Applications – Add/Remove
search for ndiswrapper

It will automatically install ndiswrapper with its dependency

Third: copy the bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5.sys to your home folder and fire up terminal/konsole

change to the directory where you put the two files:
$ cd bcm43
$ sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf

check if the driver is installed by giving command:
$ sudo ndiswrapper -l
bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4311) present (alternate driver: bcm43xx)

Fourth: Edit rc.local

$ sudo gedit /etc/rc.local
add the following lines:
rmmod ssb
rmmod ndiswrapper
modprobe ndiswrapper
modprobe ssb

Fifth : Reboot your computer and setup your wireless network

Instalasi SLAX di USB FlashDisk

SLAX berupa Live CD (.iso) dan USB FlashDisk live.
Agar FlashDisk dapat kita gunakan untuk menjalankan SLAX caranya sebagai berikut:

1. Download file slax-6.0.1.tar di sini http://www.slax.org/get_slax.php?download=tar
2. Unzip file tersebut ke Perangkat USB Flashdisk
3. Masuk ke direktori boot dengan perintah cd /media/sdb1/boot
4. Dalam mode root jalankan perintah ./bootinst.sh
5. Ikuti prosedur selanjutnya.
6. Kini flashdisk telah siap untuk booting dengan menggunakan SLAX

Atur PC atau Laptop agar boot menggunakan USB Disk.

1. Slax 6 is small

Slax has participated in development of so called sqlzma patches; the code implements 7-zip compression (LZMA) into squashfs filesystem. Moreover, squashfs evolved by the time and it now supports bigger block sizes then before. The combination of these two enhancements makes Slax one of the best-compressed operating systems in the history.
All Slax modules are much smaller then any other compressed packages available nowadays for all other Linux distributions, while the speed of decompression remains usually faster then reading the full data from disk.

2. Slax 6 is portable
Thanks to the AUFS filesystem, the read-only part of Slax (system data and modules) is overlayed by a writable filesystem. You can modify all areas of the filesystem in Slax without any restrictions. Your changes to the read-only parts are transparently copied to the writable branch and stored in memory or in a persistent directory on your disk or even flash drive. Slax is designed to autodetect whether it runs from a writable media, and if that is detected, Slax will save all your changes there automatically.
In Slax, you are not limited to just a persistent home directory – the whole root filesystem is fully writable, so we talk about ‘persistent changes’ (rather then about ‘persistent home’, known from other live distributions). You can modify /bin/bash the same way like ~/kderc.
 
3. Slax 6 is feature rich

XWindow system, KDE desktop with K-Office, Internet browsing, e-Mail, Instant messaging, CD/DVD burning and ripping, Audio and Video encoding, Multimedia players, all and even more is included in Slax.
 
4. Slax 6 is multilingual

There are official releases of Slax in 28 different languages, including Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Nynorsk, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.

Mandriva Linux 2008 and HP520

My laptop which is HP 520 with Intel Celeron 1.6, 80 G Hardisk, 1  G of RAM, Integrated Intel 945GM, Intel LAN Card, Broadcom 943xx mPCI and HDA.

Installing Mandriva 2008 on the laptop with KDE doesn’t take long. It is only  30 minutes. I use Mandriva 2008 Free from InfoLinux magazine. A standard desktop as other linux distro with KDE but with some configured peripherals . The  videocard work out of the box with 3D support (checked with glxinfo in terminal) and the HDA soundcard also work with one problem, I can’t use the external microphone but the sound is ok. The screen resolution is set up perfectly at 1820X800.

Some devices that don’t work at standard installation is the wLAN, Broadcom bcm43xx. It is actually can be set up easily with the firmware-cutter. Modem doesn’t seem to be recognized as it is related to the soundcard.

The solution of the problems is Broadcom wLAN can be set up with the firmware but it is only with 11MHz of speed not 54 MHz. The alternative is using ndiswrapper. The good thing of Mandriva is that it gives you choice in the Mandrake Control Centre to use ndiswrapper and the native driver of bcm43xx. Choose ndiswrapper and point to the bcmwl5.inf in the Win** CD driver. Then find the blacklist.mdv in /etc/modprobe.d. Add blacklist bcm43xx. rmmod bcm43xx, and do ndiswrapper -ma to add ndiswrapper in modprobe.d so that it will load ndiswrapper after reboot.

Reboot your computer and check if it works with the command iwconfig. The light of wLAN should now flashing or on to indicate that it is available. Set up your network connection with netapplet. It should now detect the access points around and connect to one of them.

Certain bacteria, especially aerobic species, need more trace elements as cofactors than anaerobic bacteria if the availability of such nutrients is low. Other bacteria which require fewer micro-nutrients will become dominant. In addition, sometimes bacteria or yeast strains release sufficient quantities of antibiotic that suppress the growth of other microorganisms. Protozoa may also have an undesirable effect by feeding on bacteria subsequently reducing the population of desirable bacteria.

New School Year Has Come

Hi everybody?

Are you ready for the new school year?
I hope so.

In this year I have some plan to do with the students. First, they have to have an email address before on the first week they meet me. Then they start writing e-mail to me. I think that’s a good idea. So we will start from the email address.

Next, they have to register their email to me by sending me an e-mail of introduction. So I will have their name and email address.
